Dream diagnostics

Years ago I first heard about a Russian doctor who was said to have written a book about using dreams to diagnose. The last week I came accross to a reference to another Russian doctor, being doctor V. Nikolaevich Kasatkin. Supposedly he used dreams for “early diagnosis of severe diseases like cancer, tuberculosis, appendicitis, etc“. Unfortunately, I’m not aware of translations of this report.
I found some other doctors on the internet. See Dieter Kroener (German)
and Jean-Michel Crabbé (French)
. I hope that these two gentlemen will soon write a blog about their experiences with dreams.

Not sure where to post this, but hoping I can get some insight into my problem. So let me try and explain and hopefully someone can give me some advice.
When I go to sleep sometimes.. Not always, but alot. I find that my brain continues to think I am awake, but I am not. Somewhere during that few second stretch I know I am still sleeping but I cannot open my eyes. Even though in my dream sometimes my eyes are already open.
I have tried to say to myself ” wake up like 3 times ” and I can feel myself.. well what feels like I am convulsing to wake myself. Kind just jerking myself awake.. but I do not think that I am really moving at all in real life.
What happens is that I might start to think about noises and … well its just very scary.. I am not sure what to do about it.. I have tried extra strenght excedrin and others as well as benadryl. I have even tried tea.. but nothing seems to work.
In my dreams I sometimes think I have even woken myself up and start to walk around, but then I catch something in my dream state that seems odd.. Like a pillow where there was none before or something out of the ordinary. So its like I am asleep and knowing I am asleep and then in my sleep waking myself up, but not really and then eventually waking myself up from the second sleep..
Told it was weird.. Its starting to take its toll on me.. I am sitting here typing and my eyes are tired.. I need to sleep but even at 35 I am somewhat afraid too. I feel as though my brain just will not shut off, but my body does. I cannot stop thinking or something. It would not be so bad if it was a good dream, but usually they are not.
Any advice? Suggestion? Thoughts?? Herbs?
Kind regards,

You’re talking about two well known phenomena. The first one is sleep paralysis, which sometimes can be experienced before you actually loose consciousness, or shortly after you regain consciousness. The second one is awareness during dreams, known as lucid dreaming.
In your case it comes with certain bad experiences, that probably would feel much more manageable if you had some validation that these are real and normal experiences.
